Cosy and Warm with Coalwood Heating Centre

Nothing says cosy and warm quite like a beautiful woodburning or multi-fuel stove, or an attractive fire in a sleek and stylish media wall. With over four decades of expertise and a customer-focused ethos, Coalwood Heating Centre is the go-to in Stockport and throughout Manchester and Cheshire. But did you know, we can do so much more?

Get Cosy for Christmas

Autumn and Winter and the Christmas and New Year Chrimbo-limbo period are just crying out for a roaring fire or crackling wood burner. Imagine traditional, Scandi-style stockings draped from the mantle, a touch of Hygge with sumptuous blankets and throws, plus seasonal foliage here-and-there. Enhance that picture-perfect cosy vibe even more with subtle candlelight or twinkling fairy lights.

It’s easy to make your home cosy and warm over Christmas but how do we continue to bring the cosy home vibe when we really need it - over the often rather miserable first couple of months of the new year?

A Fireplace Focal Point

A fireplace will always create a perfect focal point. Townhouse or country cottage, family home or holiday hideaway, a fireplace will make the space. The fireplace focal point adds immediate cosiness. A fireplace or stove instantly implies warmth, even when not in use.

If your home's not already blessed with a chimney breast or fireplace we can source or design the perfect new one. For newly built or modern homes without a chimney, we can still work with you to supply and fit the perfect stove, or we could even create a bespoke media wall with a stylish fire.

Make it the Centre of Attention

Once you have that perfect focal point, you can make it the centre of attention within the room. Position seating and furniture around the stove, which invites people to gather.

Accessorise with high-quality, decorative stove tools (such as a cast-iron shovel, tongs, and brush) that complement the room's style. We stock decorative companion sets or you can scour salvage yards and antique shops. A filled log basket looks charmingly rustic but also keeps wood handy and tidy.

We recommend our kiln-dried logs for your wood-burning stove. They have less than 20% moisture content, so they burn hotter and cleaner than freshly cut or only semi-dry logs. That's better for the environment – and your pocket. We stock packs of 10kg Certainly Wood, and 25kg Logs Direct bags of kiln-dried logs, which you are welcome to collect from the showroom. You can also order a bulk home delivery from our online store.

Comfortable and Cosy Furniture

Comfy furniture is a must in any space designated for spending valuable downtime. Style should NEVER be considered over substance; furniture should always be fit for purpose. Think squashy sofas and chairs that feel like a big hug, all made even cosier with cushions and throws.

Cosy Up with Colour

Warm, rich shades and tones add to a feeling of comfort and cosiness. Berry hues, vibrant ochres, and terracotta spring readily to mind but even blues and greens and stormy greys can be warm. Rich teal or soft navy add warmth and elegance. Rooms we use after dark work well with deeper colours, as clever lighting can lift them. Farrow and Ball, Zoffany and Little Greene all boast wide selections of exquisite colours, simply perfect for these spaces and even more mainstream brands have heritage ranges.

Texture for a Touch of Warmth

A cosy room will have abundant upholstery, ideal to bring depth and interest into a room. Velvet and wool can sit well together. Jacquards and tweeds layer up beautifully, and faux fur or chunky cable-knit blankets epitomise cosiness. Cushions, rugs, and throws in blended textures can soften a scheme and add an indulgent feel. This can be achieved with little investment, so you can go to town.

Lighten Up

Glaring, artificial lights are far from cosy. Try subtle lighting schemes, and warm toned bulbs. You could choose subtle spots to illuminate the fireplace, or a reading lamp by a favourite chair. Use dimmable lights so cosiness is assured but the brightness can go up when needed.

Stay Grounded with Flooring

Hardwood or parquet flooring always looks good and works in a period property or a cool, contemporary pad, but nothing is quite so cosy as plush carpets. Carpet isn’t always practical though so layer your hard flooring with a rug or two. A vast rug in front of the stove will accommodate all the central furniture and add even more cosiness.

Artful Accessories

Blank walls rarely feel cosy. However you feel  about art, adding décor to the walls always makes a space feel more homely. Choose artwork you love and add family photos in decorative frames. Beautiful clocks and wall sconces can all fit into a scheme too. Browse our range here.

Cushion the Blow

Interior Designers and home stagers LOVE cushions and that’s because there’s no cosy home without plenty of plump, feather-filled cushions. Don't do a couple of small or sparsely filled cushions, nor plain ones that came with your sofa. When doing cushions, do it big and bold.

Heaven Scent

Fragrance is incredibly evocative. Think of an old favourite perfume, the scent of cut grass, a full-bodied red wine or the smell of baking. Aromas have the power to change or enhance mood, so another must-have is scented candles. We have a lovely selection in-store and also online. The Black Vanilla and the Raspberry are both divine!

Cosiness, Confirmed

Keep your home cosy even after the festive season. January needn’t be the Monday of months, and February doesn’t have to be gloomy. Use our ideas to keep your home cosy beyond Christmas – in fact, right through until Spring. If you have one of our beautiful woodburning stoves, or a multi-fuel stove you’re already well on the way.

Contact us today and we’ll help you stay cosy, all year round.
