FIREPLACE ALTERATIONS Most prospective customers seem to have either a bricked-up chimney breast, an old gas fire fixed to the wall, or an old fireplace they inherited with the house and have never really liked. In order to have a stove fitted, they my just want something fairly simple like a plain squared-off opening and a new hearth. Traditional fireplace shops appear not to want to get involved in this kind of work, but provided you are buying a stove from us, we are very happy to remove your old fireplace, open out your chimney breast, line the internal sides and rear with fire retardant board (looks like plaster, but doesn't crack or craze with the heat like plaster often does), make good the plaster around the new opening, construct a new raised hearth of stone/tiles/etc., and match up your skirting board at the sides. The cost will vary according to the size of opening/amount of rubble to be removed from site/cost of hearth materials/whether a wooden beam or surround is required/distance from our showroom, but a figure of around £895 inc.VAT to open up to approx. 36"w x 36"h, (including Indian stone hearth, but excluding a beam or surround) is fairly typical, on top of the cost of the stove and stove installation. Larger openings will be more expensive due to the extra rubble to remove and materials needed to finish off. Hearths flush with the floor will also add to the cost, due to having to dig out the old hearth and reconstruct the base, before tiling or w,h,y, |
If you have no chimney at all, we can install a twinwall insulated stainless steel flue system either up the outside of the building, or up through the building, boxed-in upstairs, and on the ground floor either with the flue pipe on show as a feature, or hidden inside a lightweight fireproof mock chimney breast. Prices will vary depending on the height of the flue/flue diameter/ number of bends/amount of modific- ation to ceiling and roof timbers/ distance from showroom, but for a flue going up through the house, boxed-in with mock chimney breast containing a plain opening, the cost would typically be around £3000 to £3,500 inc.VAT, plus the cost of the stove. An external chimney would be several hundred pounds less, and could be supplied in black powder-coated finish if preferred to shiny stainless finish. Please note that the usual twinwall flue system we use is Midtherm HT-plus (British Made), and the single wall matt black enamelled flue is either Midtherm or Brefco Supaflue (both British Made). |
